Only The Strong Survive
Competition to win new contracts is fiercer than ever in the construction industry today, with many smaller construction businesses close to implosion. The smaller businesses who are heavily reliant upon plant machinery to complete their work are struggling the most as they can’t live without the equipment but also can’t cover the cost whilst staying competitive.
“Smaller construction businesses often hold significant levels of investment in such equipment as a way of improving their productivity and sustaining higher output” say Gary Holt and David Edwards, Professors from the Centre for Business Innovation and Enterprise at Birmingham City Business School. The professors claim ‘the result has a very direct effect on the future existence of these firms.’
