Cameron To Create Brownfield Boost
PM David Cameron considers brownfield land to be the solution to the lack of property in the UK. Cameron is soon to make thousands of publicly owned acres available which in turn could lead to the creation of around 100,00 new houses.
Developers and builders joining the scheme will only have to pay the government what’s owed for the land once they have sold their properties, instead of the traditional approach of having to secure finance first. This would also mean good news for employment to, as it’s predicted that the plans could support around 200,000 jobs too.
The PM said in an interview with the Sunday Times, "The Government owns huge amounts of land, mostly brownfield sites, previously developed, either out of use or being run down in some way." He added: "There's an enormous opportunity to build homes on those sites."
