Development Summary
Local Area
This area is already benefiting from on going regeneration on a massive scale and over the next 3-5 years will be transformed by multi-million pound investment in local infrastructure such as health centres, community facilities, retail and superstores and environmental improvements
There is increased demand for residential accommodation in the area, partly as a result of the major regeneration of the city and in light of its recent Capital of Culture Award. The process of regeneration and upgrading of the area is ongoing. Liverpool is the sixth largest city in the UK and enjoys global appeal. It is situated in the north-west of England and has excellent road and rail connections, along with international sea routes and two international airports close by. The city is currently enjoying a significant rise in its economic fortune. Since the early 1990’s the city council has been involved in promoting regeneration and economic development through a range of actions and specifically dedicated services. With both private and public sector involvement, along with a range of funding from central government and Europe, the city is now experiencing an exciting renewal. Between 1998 and 2003 the local economy grew by 25.5%, matching the rest of the UK. However, since 2002, Liverpool's economy has accelerated faster than both the regional and national rates. In 2002/3 it rose by 6.2% to £6.5bn (against the North West's 5.4% and the UK rate of 5.5%). Business confidence is continually improving with new office developments underway in the city centre and suburbs. The city centre has high quality retail, leisure, office, residential and public realm schemes now under construction are dramatically transforming the city centre, and changing the skyline forever. With £2 billion of investment committed, the regeneration of Liverpool city centre is well underway and the effects of economic revival are now everywhere to see. Alongside economic growth the city will fly the flag for Britain as European Capital of Culture in 2008. The city beat off stiff competition from cities across Europe, winning the award in recognition of passion, vision and enthusiasm, and first class cultural heritage. All these factors are having a significant effect on residential values in the city and the surrounding boroughs where house prices have risen faster than the national average for the last few years.
